The Builders Licensing Course covers the 8th Edition Massachusetts Building Code (Basic /Commercial and 1 & 2 Family Dwellings). The classes provide vital preparation for the Construction Supervisors License Exam, both Restricted and Unrestricted exams, and is also an excellent code review for those already licensed.  (Sometimes called a Contractors License or Builders License, the official name in Massachusetts is the Construction Supervisors License.)

Quincy, MA:

Course fees: $280 for BRAGB members, $380 for non-members (plus required books).   Join BRAGB within six months after completing the course, and receive a $100 credit.

The course runs for seven weeks, one night a week from 7 to 10 p.m.
Space is limited and classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

The classes are lead by four expert instructors with extensive professional experience in the building trades and up-to-date knowledge of the Building Code. Homework will be assigned each week and reviewed in the following class.

    Special uses & occupancy; Alterations, repairs, additions; Interior environment, energy, mechanical

    Life Safety: fire resistive constr, Interior finishes, Fire protection, Egress
    Structural loads, tests, and inspections; Foundations; Concrete & masonry;
    Misc. Construction. Issues

    1 & 2 Family Dwellings: wood, the tables, code specs, foundations, floors, walls, roofs & ceilings, chimneys & fireplaces

    Exam Techniques; Practice Exam; Wrap-up


Why License?
A Construction Supervisors License is required by building departments before they will issue a permit. A person holding a license is required to be on the job.  Get in compliance. Pursue licensure for yourself and your employees and be that much more marketable in today's competitive business climate.

Books for the Unrestricted License Exam
Those taking the Unrestricted License exam will need:

Obtaining the Above Books:
At the time a student signs up for class, the books may be ordered through BRAGB and they are handed out the first night of class. Extra Books will not be available.

The Licensing Exam:
The exam is completely separate from this course and is the student's responsibility.  All questions regarding the Licensing Exam, the License, requirements, and eligibility should be directed to the state's testing service, Prometric, www.prometric.com, 800-813-6671 and/or the BBRS at www.mass.gov/bbrs .

Three years of full-time work experience in construction or design are a requirement of the exam and license.  The application to take the Construction Supervisor License Exam requires a candidate to submit a letter of attestation or copies of W-2 Forms from an employer in demonstration of qualifications.

Students must contact Prometric to obtain material to register for the exam and to determine license eligibility requirements. Other:
Students are expected to have experience in construction and with the Massachusetts Building Code. Homework is assigned each week and reviewed the following week. All students are required to bring the Building Code Book(s) and other reference codes to class. Books may be ordered when signing up for the course, and will be handed out the first night class meets.

Individuals are registered on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to the popularity of this course, we cannot reserve space without receipt of full payment. Online registration and credit card payment secures your place, while space is available.


Cancellations/Refund Policy:
$50 processing fee for cancellations, up until 10 days before start date, after which cancellations cannot be accepted and no refunds will be made. No exceptions.

Note: Students who complete the course and have met attendance and homework requirements have the option to take the next course over, within six months, at no cost if they do not pass the exam, provided space is available.  Must notify our office of exam results and desire to repeat the class within six months of class completion.
